Marieke Kaajan

Marieke Kaajan is a partner and one of the founders of ENVIR Advocaten. She specialises in administrative law, with a focus on environmental law and nature conservation law.

As a lawyer, Marieke takes a highly practical approach. Also thanks to her experience with complex projects and knowledge of government processes, she can adapt easily to changing circumstances and quickly determines which approach will make the case truly move along. Marieke worked at Stibbe as a lawyer for 13 years in the administrative law and environmental law department.

Marieke supports her clients in obtaining, defending and amending all relevant permits for large industrial projects (water permits, waste permits, environmental permits and permits pursuant to the Nature Conservation Act (prior to January 2017: Nature Conservation Act 1998 and Flora and Fauna Act).

She also deals with liability issues relating to government bodies, such as liability due to soil contamination.

Marieke represents various developers and government bodies in connection with varying environmental law issues, both in legal proceedings and the preceding process. Previous projects in which she was involved include the development of a large onshore wind farm and the construction and operation of various power plants.

Marieke also authored the Nature Conservation Act section of Tekst en Commentaar Milieurecht and is a regular annotator for the magazine Milieu en Recht and the OGR-updates. She also regularly teaches courses on nature conservation law and other topics concerning environmental law. In 2009, Marieke completed a mini-MBA course at INSEAD.
