Marcel Soppe

Marcel Soppe is a partner of ENVIR Advocaten. Marcel has been practicing law since 1999. His previous firm, Soppe Gundelach advocaten, merged into ENVIR Advocaten on 1 January 2021. Marcel’s practice focuses entirely on administrative law, with particular emphasis on planning and zoning, nature conservation law, environmental law and EU environmental law. Both governments and companies and developers are among his clients. Marcel assists his clients in relation to airport and seaport development, area development projects (such as inner city redevelopment, business parks, housing, and water storage), wind farms, solar parks and environmental installations.

Marcel obtained his PhD in 2005 on the subject of environmental impact assessment and is an associate at Utrecht University (Utrecht Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law). He has various scientific and professional publications to his name and is an annotator/editor for, among others, the legal periodical Milieu en Recht. He is also the author of Tekst en Commentaar Milieurecht for chapter 7 Environmental Management Act (environmental impact assessment).

He contributes regularly to study days, symposia and training courses. Marcel is also associated with the Environmental Impact Assessment Commission. Marcel is aware of the political-administrative dimension within which public decision-making processes take shape. This is important in his position as deputy chairman of the Advisory Committee for Objections and Complaints of the Province of Gelderland.
