Julian Kevelam
Julian Kevelam joined ENVIR Advocaten in January 2021 as an associate. He specializes in environmental law, with a particular focus on planning and zoning and water law. He mainly advises and represents in court municipalities and (project) developers. Examples of recent cases include housing and area development projects, redevelopment of existing real estate and the realization of solar and wind farms. In addition to environmental law cases, he also handles cases in the field of general administrative law. For example in relation to public access to information and subsidies.
In addition to his work as a lawyer, Julian is an associate at the Utrecht Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law (UCWOSL) of Utrecht University. He participates in research projects, teaches, and publishes jointly with researchers at UCWOSL. Julian won the 2017 Piet Gilhuis Thesis Award from the Environmental Law Association for his thesis entitled “The legal protection of drinking water sources in shale gas extraction“.
Julian completed the master’s degree in State and Administrative Law, specializing in Environmental Law, cum laude at Utrecht University. After graduating in 2015, Julian joined Soppe Gundelach advocaten as paralegal and UCWOSL as junior researcher and later PhD student. Since August 2017, Julian worked full time as a lawyer at Soppe Gundelach advocaten. Julian is a member of the Administrative Law Association, the Construction Law Association, the Environmental Law Association and the Agricultural Law Association.
